Follow-Up of the Day: Abused Bus Monitor Gets Appologies; Donations Hit $500K: Karen Huff Klein, the 68-year-old bus monitor whose horrific abuse at the hands of juvenile delinquents went viral this week, finally has received apologies from two of her tormentors.

One boy, Josh, said he was “so sorry for the way I treated you”:

When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again.

Another student, Wesley, wrote Klein a note:

I feel really bad about what I did. I wish I had never done those things. If that had happened to someone in my family, like my mother or grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that to them.

Klein maintains that she does not want the students to be charged with any crimes. She told Anderson Cooper on Thursday that she is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and online donations to send her on “the vacation of a lifetime,” which totalmore than $500,000 since the campaign launched Wednesday:

I just don’t feel like it’ll come to me anyway, so I don’t think too much about it. I just don’t know if it’s for real or not. It sounds too good to be true.

But Redditor Max Sidorov, the Toronto man who launched the fundraiser, says the funds will go directly to Klein when the campaign ends in 29 days. “The money won’t touch my hands at all,” he said.
